SAT Essay

While the average SAT essay score in 2019 was 5 out of 8, the average score in the analysis section was just 3 out of 8. The scoring procedure is as follows: two judges assign a score of 1 to 4 to each area of your essay. An average score between the two judges is created by adding together their ratings.

The 2019 statistics showed that each essay portion had a substantially varied distribution of marks on a scale from 2 to 8. The majority of students scored 4, 5, and 6 points on the reading and writing portions of the tests, which is a common trend. However, the data in the Analysis part were entirely different: the bulk of the scores were 2 and 4.

Here, a lot of students become perplexed and provide their opinions rather than critically studying the information. Students’ comprehension of the author’s use of justification, logic, and persuasive or stylistic features is evaluated in the Analysis part. Additionally, this area is very new; it was not included in the 2016 SAT essay.

Because of this, many people are not simply well-prepared enough to thrive at this work. The former SAT essay score was determined by the two judges’ evaluations, who scored each essay on a scale of 1 to 6, without any distinction between reading, writing, and analysis. The two judges’ simple average scores for the two essays were given to the students.

How To Improve SAT Essay Score?

Read the essay assignment section in its entirety. What was the author trying to convey? What justifications, reasons, and supporting details did he offer? Consider absorbing the author’s main idea.

Create an essay outline before you start writing. If you want to improve as a writer, you must use this fundamental strategy. Don’t ever put your viewpoint in your analysis to increase its score! Instead, demonstrate your ability to assess the author’s position. Consider things from several perspectives, but never from your own.

Give yourself time to work on your grammar and writing style. Essay evaluation is a biased and subjective process, and it is impossible to predict whether the two readers will place a strong focus on grammar and style.
